LIKENESS OF A PERSON 0 n the cold Arctic landscape of northern Canada, it is very common to see an inukshuk (or inukshuit in the plural). Inukshuk means 'likeness of a person' in the language of the Inuit people (1)...who..... live there. They are built from piles of rocks which are often made into (2) ..........shape of a man with (3) ............... arms or legs outstretched. The Inuit people make inukshuit for different purposes. They can be symbols of friendship or respect (4) ............pecial people. They can also warn (5)..... possible dangers or serve as signposts for travellers. They are often built so that the 'arms' (6).............pointing go in the best direction (7) when collecting food or hunting caribou¹. ********* Sometimes the Inuit people build inukshuit in long lines on each side of the tracks that the caribou walk along. Because (8) the inukshuit, it looks (9)....................there are many people. This scares the caribou and they run between the lines to the end of the track (10)..... hunters catch and kill them. In places where there are many inukshuit standing together like this, (II)............... remind... the Inuit people of the importance of friendship and dependence (12) each other.
